Thanksgiving Traditions

What we love about a “traditional Thanksgiving meal” is that it can look so different from home to home. Candied yams might be a must at one table and detested at another, the fresh vs. canned cranberry sauce is eternally a heated debate, and just about EVERYONE feels strongly about how potatoes manifest upon their plate. Mashed, smashed, baked or fried – it all matters.

Naturally, our staff has some strong opinions on what goes into a Thanksgiving dinner. Some are dishes they grew up with, some are discoveries as an adult. While some may not sound appetizing to others, all of them deserve a place at the table. We’re thankful for getting a peek into our staff’s Thanksgiving traditions, and hope you might even find an idea or two to add to your own.

"After years of messing with Martha Stewart recipes and squabbles about how best to cook the turkey, my family decided buying pre-cooked turkeys leads to more peaceful Thanksgiving dinners." – Chris, General Manager

"Granny's homemade pickles with cream cheese." – Grant, Server/Manager

“Stuffing! Isn’t that everyone’s favorite dish? Turkey - take it or leave it. Cranberry sauce sucks. It’s all about stuffing and gravy.” - Erik, Executive Chef

"I don't really like turkey. I like making mac and cheese." – Ethan, Cook

"I'm not great in the kitchen, so last Friendsgiving I decided to bring wines instead of a side dish. I chose a sparkling Franciacorta as the perfect accompaniment to the finger foods before dinner. Who doesn't love to start a nice meal with bubbles? And the value you can get for Franciacorta is unparalleled!" – Wesley, Server

"I don't like cranberry sauce, so I like to serve Lambrusco or Beaujolais with the meal to add a pop of juicy berry goodness." – Kelsey, Sommelier/Owner

"I smoke chicken bones and use that to make chicken stock ahead of time. Then I use the smoked stock, with the turkey jus, to make the gravy. You end up with smoky gravy!" – Brandon, Sous Chef
